I was born in Brooklyn and grew up here during the 50s & 60s. I graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in 1967 and relocated to Long Island with my family soon after. I bought my first camera in 1972 and have been taking photos ever since.
I was a frequent visitor to Steeplechase in Coney Island during those early years. So, maybe that's why the Mermaid Parade has been an obsession of mine. There are always interesting people to photograph and they are almost always willing to be photographed.
I am interested in taking portraits. I like to take photos on the streets, in make shift studios, in homes, clubs, bars and at parties.
I have never had a formal training or photo education but I have learned a lot rubbing shoulders with talented photographers.
I can look at photos all day long. I have hundreds of books on photography. It is always a thrill to thumb through and get inspired.
Like most photographers, I have tens of thousands of images. My goal is to leave my family with 1,000 photos that tell the story of my life. That is the project that I would like to finish with.
