Nigel began his photography career in 2008 after a series of unlikely events including totaling two Classic Chevrolets. Born in Brooklyn on April 21, 1977 with Georgian roots, as a 6’3, bearded African-American with the build of a football player, he often recalls projects where he had been mistaken as security for the hired photographer. This dichotomy of societal constraints and bias placed on appearance is why Nigel has chosen to focus his photography on people. His philosophy is simple. For every person on the other side of his lens, he will see himself in them and the process to discovery while stripping away physical, societal, economic and cultural differences to get to the core of his subject, brings his photography to life. Inspired by the Renaissance period, Dan Winters, Gordon Parks, Richard Avedon, and numerous others, he is relentless in his pursuit of using the power of light to capture a story. Whether moody, harsh, airy, or mysterious, it is his lighting that highlights the beauty throughout his work.
